Gordon & Rees attorney, Charles Wilson, attended "Beyond Black Letter Law: Bridging Critical Disparities Confronting Contemporary Black America" hosted by Stanford Black Law Students Association. The purpose of this very informative all day conference was to discuss the legal and cultural challenges facing black Americans since the 1964 Civil Rights Act. There were four discussion panels covering topics such as the enforcement of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, forging alliances across national borders, balancing private sector success with public sector commitment, and black representation in the media. The panelists included partners of several large private law firms, civil rights activists, legal scholars, and business professionals. This very successful event also included keynote speeches by Wade Henderson, Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and Barbara Arnwine, Executive Director of the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law.
