In its third Diversity Roundtable Series, Gordon & Rees LLP hosted a successful event, "Capital Improvements: Building A Better Pipeline," on May 8, 2007 at the Bar Association of San Francisco in San Francisco, California.
Over 70 representatives from various Bay Area law firms, corporate counsel offices, law schools, and non-profit organizations attended. The roundtable focused on why diverse candidates are "leaking" out of the pipeline - primarily before and during law school - and what efforts can be made at different educational levels to encourage diverse students to pursue a career in law.
Rod Fong, Assistant Dean for Bar Exam Services at Golden Gate University, moderated. The panelists included Ruthe Ashley, Diversity Officer at CalPERS; Arturo González, Partner at Morrison & Foerster; Marjorie Shultz, Professor at Boalt Hall; and Nicole Harris, Corporate Counsel for Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
Gordon Endow, a partner in the Business Transactions group in Gordon & Rees' San Francisco office and Barbara Ann Caulfied, senior counsel in the Environmental and Toxic Tort Group in Gordon & Rees' San Francisco office, led the Diversity Committee in organizing this event.
