Minority Law Journal (MLJ) ranked Gordon & Rees number 73 in its annual survey of minority hiring at the nation’s biggest law firms. The MLJ’s Diversity Scorecard lists 209 of the National Law Journal’s 250 largest law firms in developing its survey to gauge minority hiring efforts. Gordon & Rees’ progress over the past three years has been significant, moving from 170 in 2005 to 73 in 2007.
There are many reasons for Gordon & Rees’ success. They include the support of the firm’s management committee and the efforts of the firm’s active diversity committee. Each year Gordon & Rees hosts an annual roundtable discussion to educate the community and other law firms about the importance of diversity in the legal field. Gordon & Rees hosted a roundtable discussion in May 2007 discussing the importance of why diverse candidates are “leaking” out of the pipeline – primarily before and during law school – and what efforts can be made at different educational levels to encourage diverse students to pursue a career in law.
