Gordon & Rees’s Ben Levine to Teach Sports Law Class at St. John’s University School of Law

On Aug. 20, Gordon & Rees New York associate Benjamin A. Levine will give an invited lecture as part of St. John’s University School of Law’s International and Comparative Sports Law Program.  Levine is the youngest person ever asked to lecture in the program’s history.

During the three-hour class, to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the law school’s Queens campus, Levine will present LL.M. students with a general overview of sports law, the relationship between the media and sports, and the difference between arbitration and court.

Levine focuses his practice on complex litigation in the areas of sports, entertainment, employment, professional liability, and commercial law. Levine’s litigation skills have been developed by Gordon & Rees New York office managing partner Mercedes Colwin, who was recently named one of the “Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Attorneys.” Under Colwin’s tutelage, Levine has experience in navigating the maze of complex legal issues in state, federal, and administrative courts. Levine also works hand in hand with the premier sports attorney in the country, Gordon & Rees partner David Cornwell. He has experience involving some of the most high-profile sports law matters of the recent past, including the Alex Rodriguez disciplinary appeal under MLB’s Joint Drug Policy, the Jonathan Martin NFL workplace harassment case, and the representation of PGA Tour player Dustin Johnson. The Sports, Media and Entertainment Law Practice Group represents professional athletes, NCAA athletes, coaches, and sports agents and their agencies.

Led by Atlanta office managing partner C. Anthony Mulrain, Gordon & Rees’s SME Practice Group provides the full spectrum of specialty legal services required by the wide range of participants in these high-profile, global, multibillion-dollar industries. Clients include athletes, sports agents, actors, writers, producers, directors in the motion picture and television business, recording artists, record producers, songwriters in the music business and authors, on-air television hosts and radio station personalities as well as publicly traded, multinational media and telecommunications entities. Gordon & Rees’s SME Group also assists individual and institutional investors involved in the music and motion picture industries.

Levine also serves as an independent legal analyst on the Fox News Network.

The International and Comparative Sports Law Program is a first-of-its-kind program in the United States jointly offered by St. John’s School of Law and the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia, a distinguished European law faculty in Madrid, Spain. Taught by the international sporting community’s top lawyers, agents, and managers, the program unites two of the globe’s great sporting communities – New York and Madrid – providing access to top talent in U.S. and international sports law. The program is designed for attorneys with a passion for sports and a clear desire to practice in this rewarding global legal specialty.
