Dorothy H. "DeeDee" Murphy is an Associate in Gordon & Rees's Raleigh, North Carolina office and a member of the firm's Health Care and Business Transactions Practice Groups.
Ms. Murphy offers her clients more than six years of experience as a health care consultant for hospital systems, long term care facilities, and physician practices. In her role as a health care consultant, Ms. Murphy gained significant hands-on experience in assisting health care providers with strategic planning and regulatory compliance concerns, as well as matters involving Certificates of Need.
Ms. Murphy's legal practice is devoted to advising health care clients on compliance and regulatory matters, including issues relating to provider operations; transactional, real estate, employment, HIPAA, fraud and abuse, business formation, and general contract matters; as well as litigation matters, including Medicaid, Medicare, penalty, and Certificate of Need appeals. Ms. Murphy has represented physicians, companies, and hospitals in both advisory services and litigation. Specifically, Ms. Murphy has assisted businesses with formation and corporate maintenance, preparation and amendment of operating agreements and bylaws, and preparation of stock and asset purchase agreements.
Before joining Gordon & Rees, Ms. Murphy was a health care associate with Williams Mullen in Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to that, Ms. Murphy worked as a contract attorney for New Hanover Regional Medical Center, an acute care hospital provider in Wilmington, North Carolina. Before working with New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Ms. Murphy worked as a senior consultant for approximately six years at Ascendient Healthcare Advisors. Ms. Murphy earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Public Health as well as a J.D. from the University of North Carolina, School of Law. Ms. Murphy also earned a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science, with highest distinction, from the University of North Carolina.
