Biography

Mark A. Beckman is a Partner in the New York office of GRSM and is a member of the Commercial Litigation, Professional Liability, and Employment Law practice groups.  He has extensive experience representing corporate and individual clients in state and federal courts as well as agencies such as FINRA and the EEOC. Such representations include mediation, arbitration, and other forms of alternate dispute resolution.  He excels at drafting and arguing motions and appeals.

Mark’s practice focuses on representing clients in a variety of litigation areas. In respect of commercial litigation, his representations include directors and officers of businesses of all sizes, professionals such as attorneys and accountants, property management companies, both commercial and residential, and the panoply of businesses in commercial disputes such as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, securities and shareholder related actions, and fraud. He also has experience defending insurance companies against actions by insureds as well as competitors.

Mark also counsels and represents employers in employment law areas, particularly in wage-and-hour matters. He counsels his clients on best practices for structuring payment systems for their employees, record keeping obligations, and compliance with city, state, and federal law. He also represents his wage-and-hour clients in litigations, often putative class actions, regarding minimum wage, overtime, alleged misclassification, and department of labor investigations. Mark has particular experience representing clients in the hospitality industry, such as country clubs, golf clubs, caterers, restaurants, and bars, regarding the payment and distribution of tips and tip pooling arrangements.

Prior to joining GRSM, Mark spent 10 years with an international AmLaw 100 law firm in New York City.
