| News Update Dion Cominos Named Firmwide Managing Partner of Gordon & Rees
Cominos,43, who succeeds Michael Lucey as managing partner, leads an organization that has experienced an incredible expansion in the past decade, growing from a small, well-respected San Francisco litigation firm to a nationally recognized full-service institution. "It's a tremendous opportunity and an exciting time to be taking over," Cominos said. "I am looking forward to presiding over a period of continued growth and expansion, while at the same time making sure we preserve our fun and collegial firm culture." Cominos, who was originally hired as a summer associate by Lucey in 1986, heads Gordon & Rees's Business Litigation Group out of the firm's San Francisco office where his practice focuses on commercial and construction litigation. He assumes the helm of the firm during a dynamic time. Founded in 1974, Gordon & Rees is the youngest of the 20 largest law firms in the state. Over the past several years, the firm's revenues have nearly doubled, and last year was named by The National Law Journal as among the nation's top 10 growth leaders with offices in California, New York, Texas, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and New Jersey. In addition to its significant growth, Cominos noted that the firm was recently honored for its efforts in hiring and promoting women and minority lawyers, receiving the 2005 Law Firm Diversity Award from the Defense Research Institute (the nation's largest organization of defense trial lawyers and corporate counsel). Lucey was well-recognized during his managing partner tenure as a trial attorney in employment law, and was widely respected in the legal community and by the lawyers at Gordon & Rees for establishing a strong work ethic balanced with a positive and creative professional environment in which lawyers were encouraged to succeed both individually and collaboratively. "I can't think of a better successor than Dion," Lucey said. "He has the creativity and heart to not only continue the great work started by Stu Gordon (one of the firm's founding partners), but to take the firm to the next level." Lucey, who has an extensive practice representing a variety of businesses, public entities and educational institutions in employment matters, will continue his focus in assisting in the leadership of Gordon & Rees's growing Employment Practice Group. Gordon & Rees also maintains active and thriving practice groups in the core areas of business litigation/transactions, tort/product liability, health care, real estate, intellectual property, construction, insurance, and environmental/toxic tort. |
