Gordon & Rees has opened its newest office in Denver, Colorado, broadening the nationwide presence for the San Francisco-based firm to 14 cities and eight states.
The office will be overseen by co-managing partners Scott Cook and Miles Scully. It will focus primarily on commercial litigation initially with an anticipated expansion to include health care and employment among other practice areas within its first year.
Scully, an award-winning trial attorney, has tried numerous jury and non-jury cases. He was recently named one of the Top Ten Business Trial Attorneys by The Daily Transcript, a business publication. Cook has 24 years of experience representing clients involved in civil, business, and complex litigation.
The office will also be represented by Amy Darby, a senior associate with experience in complex business disputes, class action matters, and other general business litigation. Darby specializes in the area of franchisee/franchisor disputes. She also has extensive experience in trademark litigation, product liability and negligence claims.
"Our expansion to Denver was driven in large part by the request of our clients who appreciate our results-oriented, responsive and cost-effective methods," said Scully who represents several Colorado-based companies.
Gordon & Rees' Managing Partner, Dion Cominos, added that "the Rocky Mountain territory was an important piece in filling out our national footprint, and we're very excited about our newest opportunity in Denver. The firm has enjoyed strong relationships with a number of clients either domiciled in Colorado or with legal and business needs in the area so this was a natural extension for us. We also see many viable possibilities for new business in Colorado and expect to grow our ranks there significantly over the near term."
The opening of the Denver office continues an aggressive growth plan for Gordon & Rees which has doubled its attorney count to more than 300 attorneys and increased its office count from 7 to 14 within just the last five years. The firm is now ranked number 140 on the National Law Journal's list of the top 250 U.S. firms and is one of the largest in the western United States.
The expansion of offices has been largely accomplished by the firm attracting top talent through lateral partners such as Mercedes Colwin, a New York employment and criminal law specialist and legal analyst for Fox News, who serves as managing partner for the office in New York City, and hospitality and real estate veterans, John Theirl and Jackson Wilson, who moved their practices to the new Dallas office this past year.
