Matthew Elstein, a Gordon & Rees attorney in the San Diego office, was the featured speaker at a Lorman Education MCLE Seminar, "Insurance Bad Faith Claims in California."  Mr. Elstein spoke about recent developments in insurance bad faith and director and officer liability insurance coverage law.


Matthew Murphey, Ellen Tagtmeier and Tracy Wolf, Gordon & Rees attorneys in the Texas offices,

were invited to speak at The Insurance Women of Dallas and The Members of the State Council of National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) annual convention.  Ms. Tagtmeier delivered a presentation regarding construction law (Hot Topics in Construction Defect Insurance Coverage Law). Mr. Murphey and Ms. Wolf gave a presentation on ethics (Ethical Considerations for Insurance Professionals) and discussed the complex laws and rules enforced by the Texas Department of Insurance. 


Dion Cominos, a Gordon & Rees partner in the San Francisco office, spoke at the Lorman Education Services’ seminar, Practice Management for Architects and Engineers: How to Keep From Being Caught in the Middle in California on November 8, 2007 in San Francisco, California. Mr. Cominos discussed “Trial in State and Federal Courts: Court vs. Jury Trial and Appeals.”


Linda Mullany, a Gordon & Rees partner in the San Diego office, was a featured speaker at a seminar entitled “Nursing Home and Assisted Living Litigation in Arizona” in Phoenix, Arizona on October 24, 2007. Ms. Mullany spoke on the issue of nursing staff as witnesses at depositions and/or trials.


Manuel Saldana, a Gordon & Rees partner in the Orange County office, discussed “Window Glazing and Rollover Collisions” at the Defense Research Institute’s program on automotive products liability held in San Diego, California. The conference was attended by over 300 attorneys and in-house counsel from across the country.


Troy Brooks, a Gordon & Rees partner in the Houston office, presented “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: What’s Your Risk of Being Investigated for Fraud and Abuse?” at the Texas Association for Home Care’s Winter Conference. Mr. Brooks’ presentation is on the Texas Association of Home Care’s website and is a part of the health administrator training package. The package provides mandatory continuing education credit for home health administrators.


Mercedes Colwin, a Gordon & Rees partner in the New York office, was the keynote speaker at the National Employment Practices Liability Insurance ExecuSummit held in New York City.  Ms. Colwin discussed, “Media on EPLI – What is means to EPL Carriers.”


Susan Peck, a Gordon & Rees partner in the Orange County office, was a panelist at the "American Bar Association Women Drive Results in Transportation Law Program" in Dearborn, Michigan. The panel discussed the role of national coordinating counsel.


Skip McCowan, a Gordon & Rees partner in the San Francisco office, was the program chair for the Defense Research Institute's Drug and Medical Device Seminar in San Francisco, California. Among the topics covered were preemption of the Chief Counsel to the FDA, a jury consultant's research on the public's image of the FDA, problems facing medical device companies, and off-label use of pharmaceuticals. Over the next two years, Mr. McCowan will serve as vice-chair and then chair of the DRI's Drug and Medical Device Committee.


Matthew Foy, a Gordon & Rees partner in the San Francisco office, was a speaker at the Defense Research Institute’s Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute in Chicago, Illinois. The seminar covered the latest developments and issues in insurance coverage and claims handling, and was attended by insurance professionals and the attorneys who advise them. Mr. Foy’s presentation was titled “Papered to Death – The Use and Abuse of Written Discovery in Insurance Coverage Litigation."


Jackson Wilson and John Theirl, Gordon & Rees partners in the Dallas office, conducted symposiums on private club legal issues and club developments in golf course residential communities and resorts at the Golf, Inc. fall conference conducted in Jacksonville, Florida. The Golf, Inc. spring and fall conferences are among the top conferences attended by real estate, resort and private club developers from across the country. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Theirl, who have extensive experience in the private club, resort and related real estate development industry, have become regular speakers at the conferences on both transactional and dispute resolution matters.
