"Big National Firm Opens New Hartford Office" Connecticut Law Tribune Reports on Gordon & Rees's New Hartford Office

On July 18, the Connecticut Law Tribune published an extensive article covering the opening of Gordon & Rees's 20th national office in Hartford, Connecticut.  Based on interviews with Hartford Managing Partner Dennis Brown and Firm Managing Partner Dion Cominos, the article noted that Hartford's "reputation as the insurance capital of the world fit right in with the national firm's commercial litigation and transactions practices.  But equally as important as the location was who would head the office. Enter Dennis O. Brown, a veteran commercial litigator with a familiarity and fondness for Connecticut that was cemented when he was a struggling single father and law student here."

In the article, Dennis explained that "this is like a dream job?the firm's philosophy really matches well with me.  The old law firm model of fancy offices and parking spaces by the front door isn't the most cost efficient way to give excellent legal work to clients."  He also emphasized the importance of Gordon & Rees having a presence in the local market.  "I see it as a positive sign for the legal community and the general economy that somebody with close ties to industries key to Connecticut sees it as a place that growth makes sense.  I like the fact Hartford is the traditional home of the insurance industry; we agree it's going to continue to be a vital place and key to the insurance industry."

As Dion confirmed, "The two primary drivers of the opening of the office and its future growth plans are Dennis himself and the proximity to clients in Hartford.  Dennis is also well known to a number of our partners. ?  We think the stagnant economy has presented us with some good opportunities.  There's certainly a lot of movement in the lateral attorney market as well as a number of appetizing real estate deals.  We also feel our price structure and national platform will enable us to compete successfully."
