Gordon & Rees's A. Louis Dorny Discusses ESI Issues in California Lawyer Magazine

California Lawyer, a Daily Journal magazine, published an article by Gordon & Rees senior counsel A. Louis Dorny of Los Angeles in its April issue.

In the article, titled “Working with E-Discovery Vendors,” Dorny discussed why attorneys must understand the e-discovery process and how they can make informed recommendations to clients about third-party vendors, consultants, and experts involved in each phase of litigation.

Although vendors can be expensive, lawyers can curtail such costs by working with opposing counsel to determine how electronically stored information will be collected and produced, Dorny wrote. Attorneys also must be mindful of the relevant American Bar Association model rules that apply in the e-discovery context, he noted, especially those that “graft the ethical obligations of lawyers onto the conduct of outside vendors and consultants.”

Dorny practices complex civil litigation with an emphasis on the defense of professional malpractice suits against lawyers, brokers, directors, officers, architects and engineers. He also handles commercial litigation matters and has tried significant cases to verdict in federal and state courts, securing several multimillion-dollar settlements and judgments.
