Attorney Mentoring and Development

Gordon & Rees is sensitive to the needs of new attorneys joining the firm. In this regard, we have developed a new attorney mentoring program whereby each new attorney is assigned to a senior attorney mentor within the firm to help guide the new attorney during his or her initial year with the firm.

Assignments

Based on the firm's needs and the associate's interests, each new associate is assigned to a practice group. Each practice group consists of a practice group leader who is responsible for all of the associates within each group. Work allocation depends on the needs of each practice group.

Training

Gordon & Rees is committed to molding excellent attorneys. One example of this commitment is its annual mock trial competition between the firm's newer associates. Every summer, the firm selects first-year and second-year associates to compete against each other in a mock trial setting. Each case is tried in front of a jury which is unfamiliar with the fact pattern. The firm rents local courtrooms and videotapes the trial for the attorneys to evaluate their own performances. Additionally, thorough critiques are provided to the participating attorneys by the judge (usually a partner) and any other attorneys present for the day-long trial.

Continuing Education

Throughout the year, the firm provides a variety of seminars and videotapes so that its attorneys can educate themselves on issues that affect the legal community. Each attendee receives credit pursuant to the State Bar of California's Continuing Legal Education Program.

Diversity Recruiting Policy

Gordon & Rees is active in the field of recruiting attorneys from diverse backgrounds. We take into consideration life experiences, background as well as achievements and academic performance. Gordon & Rees is a participant in the Bar Association of San Francisco's (BASF) minority recruitment program and is dedicated to working towards achieving the minority hiring guidelines promulgated by the BASF.

Evaluations

The performance of each attorney is evaluated annually by the partners for whom each associate works.
