New and Emerging Employment Liabilities: Mercedes Colwin Moderates EPLI Conference Panel

The American Conference Institute's 16th Annual Employment Practices Liability Insurance Conference will take place January 25-26, 2011, at Park Lane in New York City. New York office Managing Partner Mercedes Colwin will moderate a panel discussion on the topic of "Assessing and Preparing for New and Emerging Federal and State Legislation, Regulations, and Initiatives Affecting Employment Practices." The panelists will address (1) the potential impact of the Paycheck Fairness Act and other new or proposed federal employment laws, (2) anticipating and preparing for a shift in the priorities and initiatives of the EEOC, (3) preparing for increased coordination among EEOC offices around the nation, (4) EPL issues arising from employee use of medical marijuana, and (5) the likelihood of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act becoming law.

The two-day conference includes presentations from leaders in the insurance, legal, and business communities. A variety of sessions will focus on understanding claims trends, minimizing exposure to risk, managing an increasing number and scope of claims, and reducing the cost of defending and settling EPL claims.

The conference has been approved for 13.5 hours of CLE credit in New York, of which 1.0 will apply to ethics. An additional 3.5 credit hours will apply to workshop A participation and an additional 2.0 credit hours will apply to workshop B participation. For California, the conference has been approved for 11.25 hours of CLE credit, of which 1.25 will apply to ethics. An additional 3.0 credit hours will apply to workshop A participation and an additional 2.0 credit hours will apply to workshop B participation. For all other states, accreditation will be sought by ACI at the request of registrants.
