Tom Packer Continues Leadership at the 13th Annual Food Safety Summit

San Francisco/Portland Partner Tom Packer, a member of the Executive Educational Advisory Committee of the Food Safety Summit, led two workshops at the 13th Annual Summit held April 19 - 21 in Washington, D.C. The Food Safety Summit is the largest and most established conference and exposition in North America on food safety, quality assurance and food security.

The first workshop, titled The Three Pillars of a Successful Food Liability Program: Prevention, Response and Resolution, featured Tom and other food industry leaders providing best practices for preventing company liability through risk assessment, the makeup of the proper crisis management team, and how to respond to and resolve claims. The second workshop, titled Food Safety Media Training: How to Be Smart," addressed how to handle food safety-specific media relations from three key perspectives - a crisis management public relations officer, a food safety reporter, and a food safety lawyer. Other workshops featured important government issues including Food Regulations: What New Mandates Face the Food Industry in 2011 and Beyond; The FDA Food Code: Content, Adoption and Implementation, and Manufacturing Issues: Traceability, Managing Allergens and Food Defense.
