Gordon & Rees Partner Michael Pietrykowski to Speak at Asbestos Task Force Hearing

San Francisco partner Michael Pietrykowski, chairman of Gordon & Rees’s Environmental and Toxic Tort Practice Group, will testify on bankruptcy issues in asbestos litigation at the American Bar Association’s Asbestos Task Force Hearing in Los Angeles.

For years, asbestos defendants have reorganized under Chapter 11 and established trusts to compensate injured parties. The money available in the trust funds is in the billions of dollars. However, the plaintiffs’ bar continues to refuse to provide information and documents showing the claims and recoveries against insolvent defendants.

At the Oct. 2nd hearing, to be held at Loyola Law School (Los Angeles), Mike Pietrykowski will discuss reasonable and timely methods for the disclosure of information and documents and how they can be used in case evaluation at trial.

Mike Pietrykowski has significant experience handling all major environmental statutes including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (Superfund), and California’s Proposition 65. He has handled a variety of toxic tort cases including those involving chemicals, asbestos and mold exposures. He is a highly respected speaker and an active participant in a national industry focus group and participates in thought leadership discussions involving defense strategies for a sector of asbestos litigation. He has spoken at numerous regional and national seminars on topics such as chemical, asbestos, mold litigation and the use of experts in environmental cases.
