Gordon & Rees Partners Mercedes Colwin and Angela Hart-Edwards to Speak on Developing Effective EEO Programs

On June 12, Gordon & Rees partner Mercedes Colwin of New York and Angela Hart-Edwards of Washington, D.C., will participate in the Federal EEO and Civil Rights Council’s roundtable titled “Developing Effective EEO Programs in Challenging Environments.”

Ms. Hart-Edwards, an advisory member of the Federal EEO and Civil Rights Council, will moderate the discussion. Ms. Colwin and the panel will address what it takes to build and maintain effective EEO programs within a federal agency as well as provide insight relevant to agency executives charged with developing and maintaining effective EEO programs. Panelists also include Timothy Bladek, attorney advisor and outreach coordinator with the EEOC Office of Federal Operations’ Training and Outreach Division; Desiree Brown, director of Civilian Human Resources, and EEO manager Wanda Watson-Mays of U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Command; and Bismarck Myrick, director of the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. A Q&A session will follow the discussion.

The Washington, D.C., event will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Broadcasting Board of Governors, Wilbur J. Cohen Building (Auditorium), 330 Independence Ave. SW.

Ms. Colwin, managing partner of Gordon & Rees’s New York office, is a leading U.S. trial lawyer with 48 cases successfully tried to verdict. She is a legal analyst on the Fox News Network, where she regularly appears on legal issues involving high-profile matters. Ms. Colwin represents corporate executives and Fortune 500 clients who rely on her and her team of attorneys and experts to handle high-stakes legal matters. She formerly served as an administrative law judge for the New York State Division of Human Rights. Ms. Colwin has received numerous national recognitions, including Notre Dame Law School’s prestigious Graciela Olivarez Award, and she was named by Forbes Business American Airlines as one of the six most influential women in America.

Ms. Hart-Edwards is a trial attorney who focuses her practice on employment and civil rights law, government investigations and corporate compliance, and federal sector EEO employment law. She has tried more than 40 cases to a successful verdict. She also handles individual and class action lawsuits, from oversight of an investigation through judgment and appeals. She formerly served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. She is the recipient of the Charles Glich Award, and was honored by Diversity MBA Magazine as one of the Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive & Emerging Leaders. Additionally, she has been named to the Washington, D.C., Super Lawyers list.
