A. Louis Dorny is senior counsel with the Los Angeles office of Gordon & Rees LLP. He co-chairs the firm's Professional Liability Defense practice group and is a member of the Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Privacy & Data Security practice groups, focusing on complex commercial litigation both in the trial court and on appeal.

Mr. Dorny has represented clients in a wide range of matters, including cases involving antitrust law, class certification, copyright law, legal malpractice, patent law, privacy law, product liability, securities and white collar defense. He has briefed appeals in federal and state appellate courts around the country, and has argued appeals in the Ninth Circuit and California’s Courts of Appeal. Rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale Hubbell, he was also named one of the “up-and-coming 100 rising stars” in Southern California by the “Superlawyers” edition of Los Angeles magazine.

Mr. Dorny represents clients in class actions across several substantive areas of the law, in both trial and appellate courts. A former UNIX systems administrator and IT consultant, Mr. Dorny is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/US) and advises clients in connection with privacy and cyber security compliance. Mr. Dorny has defended class actions in matters related to Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003 (CAN SPAM), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR).

In the area of intellectual property, Mr. Dorny has significant experience prosecuting and defending applications for injunctive relief and/or damages for infringement, false advertising, false designation of origin, trademark counterfeiting (including Court Ordered ex parte seizures of goods bearing counterfeit trademarks), trade secret, and unfair competition claims, under the Lanham Act, the Copyright Act, the related Digital Millennium Act, state statutes protecting IP, as well as common law.

He graduated from Southwestern Law School in 2000. Mr. Dorny received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, from University of Utah in 1996. He is a Contributing Editor to the treatise Trade Secret Litigation and Protection in California (3d. ed., 2014). The Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of California, and has lectured and has written on a variety of subjects, including eDiscovery, copyright law, privacy law, trade secrets and supply chains.
