Chris Raney tries cases in a broad array of commercial disputes. Raney’s trial practice includes complex commercial cases in state court, federal court, and arbitration. A large part of Raney’s practice is going to trial, preparing for trial, and arguing key motions leading up to trial. His practice spans the spectrum in complex civil litigation from contract disputes to employment to insurance coverage to health care to real estate.
Mr. Raney has considerable litigation experience in contract disputes, directors and officers liability, insurance (bad faith), drug and medical device, fiduciary duty, fraud, health care, personal injury defense, real estate, securities, shareholder derivative, toxic torts, and other types of litigation. His clients also retain him to represent their interests after trial before Texas and federal appellate courts.
Raney also represents insurers in first party claims involving allegations of bad faith and violation of Chapters 541 and 542 of the Texas Insurance Code.
Raney also regularly represents and counsels companies in employment matters, including covenants not to compete, claims of wrongful termination, and claims of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment before administrative agencies and courts.
Finally, Raney serves as outside general counsel to various companies and advises them on a variety of legal issues.
Mr. Raney’s peers have selected him as a “Rising Star” of the Texas bar the past six years (Texas Monthly, 2013-2018). Mr. Raney has also been selected as one of Houston’s “Top Lawyers” in commercial litigation. (H Magazine, 2010, 2011, 2013).
