Christopher R. Farnsworth is Senior Counsel in the Orange County office of Gordon & Rees. His practice includes maritime, securities and general litigation matters. Mr. Farnsworth’s maritime work includes defending clients in civil lawsuits involving damaged cargo, pollution incidents, vessel arrests, maritime liens and personal injury, as well as a variety of other business-related torts, primarily on behalf of vessel owners and their insurers. He has extensive casualty investigation experience related to cargo loss and cargo damage, personal injuries, environmental and pollution issues, Port State Control investigations, evidence preservation and other criminal environmental claims, and has defended clients in criminal proceedings related to environmental pollution and other casualties.

In his securities law practice, Mr. Farnsworth defends financial services firms, individual supervisors and investment professionals in customer claims and regulatory investigations involving claims of unsuitability, unauthorized trading, negligence, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, failure to supervise and other alleged violations of federal and state securities laws.

Mr. Farnsworth also has experience in general litigation matters, including construction defect, lender liability, corporate fraud and various other claims. He has served as the lead trial associate, working with lead trial counsel to prepare fact and expert witnesses for examination, briefing during trial and in the introduction and presentation of evidence.

While at Pepperdine, Mr. Farnsworth also earned a master’s degree in dispute resolution (M.D.R.) from the Straus Institute and mediated 30 cases in the Los Angeles County court system. As part of his M.D.R. coursework, he traveled to Hong Kong and Beijing for a comparative study of the two cities’ respective arbitral forums.
