Mr. Weston is a commercial and insurance litigator serving corporate and insurance clients in litigation matters in Alabama, Mississippi, and throughout the Southeast. Mr. Weston further acts as primary counsel for a number of domestic corporate entities, foreign multi-nationals and insurance carriers in litigation across the country.  In his practice Mr. Weston has successfully represented clients at trial, through dispositive motion efforts, including multiple dismissals and summary judgment wins, favorably resolving matters at mediation, and aggressively and efficiently pursuing client goals through all measures available in litigation.  Mr. Weston takes great pride in, and his clients will tell you, that he develops close working relationships and demonstrates unyielding loyalty through his dedication to client needs, sound counseling, strong commitment to client service, and real-time reporting.
In his role as Alabama and Mississippi counsel for Gordon Rees, Mr. Weston represents clients in matters across the full spectrum of legal issues, though his litigation practice specialties include:

Employment Law

  • Defend corporate clients against all manner of litigated employment claims, including but not limited to ADA, sexual and racial discrimination claims, EEOC disputes and retaliatory discharge matters.
  • Represents corporations in labor disputes and negotiation, including acting as lead counsel in arbitrations pursuant to collective bargaining agreements, and appellate practice work seeking favorable precedential language for clients in matters against labor unions.
  • Counsel and advise clients to reduce and manage risk while navigating the various legal and regulatory mechanisms.

Trucking and Transportation

  • Lead counsel for transportation insurance carriers, trucking companies and commercial fleets in property and casualty litigation in high-exposure lawsuits and claims.
  • Rapid response investigations to incidents in the Southeast by coordinating expert inspections, witness interviews and securing evidence to favorably position clients in anticipated (or seeking to prevent) litigation.

Environmental/Toxic Tort

  • Conduct in-depth investigations on behalf of, and defend corporate entities directly, both direct and as retained insurance counsel, reaching favorable resolutions in toxic tort matters in Alabama and Mississippi and as national coordinating counsel, for benzene, asbestos and other environmental and chemical exposure lawsuits.

Product & General Liability

  • Defend product manufacturers in complex, expert-driven litigation, securing multiple dismissals through dispositive motion efforts.
  • Discrete and specialized practice experience defending against property subrogation claims, having spent the early part of his career in a nationally-recognized, boutique practice group for an international firm based in Chicago, focused on pursuing high-value property and energy subrogation claims on behalf of property insurers and carriers.


  • Represent carriers in coverage analyses, opinion letter drafting, defense against policyholder bad faith claims, declaratory judgements, and other insurance-related litigation issues and lawsuits, across multiple policy lines.
  • Successful dispositive motion and early resolution efforts across the spectrum in insurance disputes across the Southeast.

Professional Liability Defense

  • Defend professionals in insurance procurement disputes (agents, brokers, etc.), financial services, accounting, appraisals and real estate, against malpractice and other professional claims and lawsuits, having secured summary judgment in multiple venues in disputed maters.
  • Discrete and specialized national practice focus defending commercial real-estate appraisers from liability claims related to IRS charitable conservation easement syndications.
Mr. Weston is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, Mississippi Bar Association and is a regular contributor to the Alabama branch of Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (“CLM”).  Mr. Weston is called upon by clients to act as a speaker and present on current legal issues and procedures for managing risk.
