James R. “Reg” Reilly is a litigation partner at Gordon & Rees. His practice focuses on general commercial and product liability litigation, including representation of medical device and pharmaceutical product manufacturers.

In his commercial litigation practice, Mr. Reilly has represented public companies, startups, privately held businesses, and partnerships in in a variety of matters throughout all phases of litigation. These matters have included securities fraud, theft of trade secrets, real estate disputes, antitrust, contractual disputes involving goods and services, software disputes, unfair competition, fraudulent trade practices, false advertising, tortious interference, environmental cleanup, and trade dress infringement.

Mr. Reilly’s product liability practice has focused on products of all types, including a variety of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, glass products, tools, toxic chemicals, optical equipment, electronic components, radiological devices, among others. He has litigated cases concerning these products in single-action cases, mass torts, and class actions. He has been responsible for managing national litigation, including selecting and overseeing trial counsel and for developing and preparing expert witnesses.  Mr. Reilly has also served as local and regional (west coast) counsel for product cases pending throughout the country and as trial counsel in specific cases. All of these cases have encompassed a variety of issues, including federal preemption, mass tort coordination, class action suitability, the Class Action Fairness Act, Daubert hearings, and the application of biostatistics to issues of medical causation.

Mr. Reilly has extensive experience in all levels of trial and pretrial litigation, including mediation, arbitration, trial and appellate work in both state and federal courts. His defense of a case in a four-week trial was recognized as one of the top defense verdicts in the state of California in 2013 by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Mr. Reilly is also a Judge Pro Tem for the San Francisco Superior Court, an arbitrator for the Alameda County Superior Court and a member of the pretrial ADR team for the for the Contra Costa County Superior Court.

Prior to law school, Mr. Reilly was an officer in the United States Navy for six years, during which time he served in the Third and Seventh Fleets.
