John Keen is a partner in the firm’s Employment Law and Construction Practice Groups. His employment practice involves representing government and private-sector employers before state and federal administrative agencies and trial courts. Mr. Keen is experienced in counseling, and defending clients against claims of employment discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, harassment, breach of contract, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Colorado Wage Act, and other labor and employment disputes in court, administrative proceedings, and mediation. Mr. Keen advises clients on personnel issues, compliance, terminations and disciplinary actions. He also assists clients with developing employment policies, employment agreements and separation agreements. Mr. Keen has also successfully represented clients in defending claims of housing discrimination. He was recognized by Rising Stars® in the field of Employment Litigation in 2011 and 2013.
Mr. Keen also has extensive experience handling construction defect claims of all sizes. Mr. Keen represents architects and engineers against claims of professional liability. He currently acts as errors and omissions counsel for a nationally expanding engineering firm. He has litigated claims involving the design and construction of multi-family and single family residences as well as hospitals and commercial construction.
Mr. Keen also has experience in cases involving commercial litigation including complex litigation involving real estate, school law, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and construction matters. Mr. Keen has significant experience handling cases in these and other areas from their inception through trial and arguments before the Court of Appeal.
He earned his A.B. from Washington University in St. Louis and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri. He was the recipient of the Fred L. Howard Prize for Excellence in the Advancement of Advocacy, was an Executive Board Member of the Board of Advocates, and a Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Dispute Resolution. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Keen was a tenured high school teacher in suburban St. Louis, as well as a wrestling and football coach.
