Mark W. Thayer is senior counsel in the Houston office of Gordon & Rees Scully Mansukhani practicing primarily in the Commercial Litigation and Insurance groups. Since the beginning of his legal career in 1986, he was with a Houston boutique civil litigation firm that merged with Gordon & Rees in 2009. His experience over the last 30 plus years includes representation of clients under their automobile, homeowner or commercial general liability policies, as well as representation of the carrier on first party bad faith claims and coverage issues. The nature of the claims have covered the spectrum of automobile accidents, dog bites, premises liability, commercial matters of various types including the defense of insureds with professional licenses. On occasion, he represented injured clients as well, in matters related to professional malpractice.
Mr. Thayer’s experience in business litigation includes representation of a national homebuilder in cases involving manufactured homes, as well as traditionally built homes, and major subcontractors for commercial buildings. He has also represented design professionals in defending professional liability matters throughout Texas. He has also represented clients in litigation stemming from an acquisition contracts, commission contracts, employment contracts, and general contract disputes between companies. In addition to contractual disputes, Mr. Thayer has represented clients in matters involving shareholder disputes, business torts and statutory claims ranging from fraud, to negligent misrepresentation, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, usury, tortious interference, and the like.
Mr. Thayer has tried jury and non-jury cases, and has participated in numerous mediations, arbitrations, temporary injunction hearings, and appeals.
Mr. Thayer served 4 years in the United States Air Force prior to going to college. He was honorably discharged in November 1977 and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his work while stationed in England.

Mr. Thayer has been active in the Texas State Bar serving two consecutive terms on the Grievance Committee, District 4G, and was Chairman of the Grievance Committee for fiscal years 1993-1995.
