Jeffrey Cawdrey Announced as New President of San Diego Law Library

San Diego partner Jeffrey Cawdrey is the new president of the San Diego Law Library and will oversee the final phase of the downtown law library's renovation. His appointment was announced last week by the San Diego Law Library's Board of Trustees.  He has served on the Board since 2007 and succeeds Judge Julia Craig Kelety.

The county's only public law library is currently undergoing a $5 million renovation and rebranding that will include new public spaces for research, meetings and community events. Additionally, the 55-year old building will be retrofitted with new HVAC, electrical, plumbing and data cabling. The Law Library serves San Diego County with over 200,000 print and electronic resources available through its locations in downtown San Diego, Vista, El Cajon and Chula Vista.

"This renovation has been about two things: updating the building so that it is safe, compliant and useful and creating a welcoming and comfortable space for lawyers and the general public to learn about and use the law to solve problems and achieve success," Cawdrey said. "We are incredibly grateful to the Hervey family and the people of San Diego County for helping fund this opportunity."

Cawdrey is co-chair of Gordon & Rees's Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Creditors' Rights practice group and a member of its Commercial Litigation practice group. He serves as a court appointed mediator for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of California and was honored as Mediator of the Year, 2010-2011. Joining him as officers are Estate, Trusts & Probate Specialist Carolyn R. Brock, Vice-President/President-Elect; and the Honorable Albert T. Harutunian, III, Judge of the Superior Court, who was re-elected to serve as Treasurer.

About the San Diego Law Library

The San Diego Law Library is the only community resource dedicated to helping people learn about and use the law to solve problems, access justice and leverage opportunities. Since 1891, the Law Library has served the entire county – the general public, businesses, self-represented litigants, attorneys and the courts – as the only freely accessible legal collection available to the public.

The Law Library is an independent public agency, organized under California Business and Professions Code, and is funded from a portion of civil court filings fees and from donations raised by the Law Library Justice Foundation. In addition to downtown, the library has locations in Vista, El Cajon and Chula Vista. For complete information about the Law Library's resources and services, visit www.sandiegolawlibrary.org .
