On Aug. 26, Gordon & Rees opened a Raleigh, N.C., office led by longtime partner Thomas A. Packer, who serves as its managing partner.
Packer, who also serves as the firm’s general counsel, has handled matters for the past 33 years in the firm’s San Francisco and Portland offices.
Gordon & Rees firmwide managing partner Dion N. Cominos says, “The Research Triangle is one of the nation's fastest-growing areas as well as a dynamic place for business. Having an office in North Carolina fits well into our overall strategic vision and complements our Southeast presence and the strong demand for our services there. It’s a real bonus for us that Tom, with his longstanding tenure at the firm, is opening this office.”
Packer notes, “Our attorneys have deep client connections to the area. Over the past five years alone, Gordon & Rees has represented more than 50 North Carolina-based companies from the life sciences, chemical, technology and manufacturing industries. Having an office in Raleigh, part of the thriving Research Triangle region, allows us to do more for our growing roster of North Carolina-based clients.” Packer, who joined the firm in 1982, says the Raleigh office will handle a variety of work with an emphasis on commercial, product liability and other civil defense litigation and is looking to add several attorneys in the near term.
Gordon & Rees’s expansion across the country is part of its long-term plan to open offices in key locations of importance to clients. Since 2000, Gordon & Rees has nearly tripled in size, added more than 20 offices outside California, and has a major office in eight of the 10 largest cities in the United States. In 2012 alone, Gordon & Rees opened seven new offices and, earlier this year, launched a Philadelphia office. Further expansion is expected in the coming months.
