Gordon & Rees Partner Mike Lucey Admitted to American College of Trial Lawyers

Gordon & Rees San Francisco partner Michael T. Lucey has become a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations of America.

Founded in 1950, the college is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the college is extended by invitation only to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years of trial experience before they can be considered for fellowship.

Membership in the college – which has more than 5,700 members in the United States and Canada –cannot exceed 1 percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. The college strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the trial profession.

Lucey is a trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience who focuses his practice on employment law and related litigation. He has won defense verdicts in numerous cases involving discrimination, harassment and retaliation under Title VII, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Family & Medical Leave Act, the California Fair Employment & Housing Act, and California Business & Professions Code Section 17200.

Lucey represents a variety of clients that include most of the major educational institutions in Northern California. He advises management on compliance with employment laws, including the investigation and evaluation of internal complaints of harassment and discrimination. He also represents clients before administrative agencies, such as the Department of Fair Employment & Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the Department of Labor, and the Office of Civil Rights.

Lucey began his legal career at Gordon & Rees in 1980, became a partner in 1987, and served as firmwide managing partner from 1998 to 2006. He also started the Employment Practice Group at Gordon & Rees. Lucey’s outstanding achievements have led to a Martindale-Hubbell peer rating of AV Preeminent and selection to become a member in the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.
