Knicole C. Emanuel, partner, and Robert W. Shaw, senior counsel, have joined the Raleigh office of Gordon & Rees as members of the firm's Health Care practice group. Both were formerly with the Raleigh office of Williams Mullen.
Emanuel’s litigation practice concentrates on Medicare and Medicaid litigation, health care regulatory compliance, administrative law and regulatory law. Emanuel has tried over 1,000 administrative cases and has appeared before arbitration panels and in various appellate forums. She represents health care providers who have regulatory compliance issues with Medicaid or Medicare including alleged overpayment, termination of contracts or suspension of reimbursements. She has also represented Fortune 500 companies, hospitals, physicians and pharmaceutical companies in complex class actions. Emanuel frequently lectures on health care law, the impact of the Affordable Care Act and regulatory compliance for providers, including physicians, home health and hospice, dentists, chiropractors, hospitals and durable medical equipment providers.
Shaw has extensive litigation experience, including representation of health care clients in Medicare and Medicaid litigation, provider disputes, administrative law, complex business litigation, and regulatory compliance. He has represented physicians, companies, and hospitals in both advisory services and litigation across the country. He has practiced before federal appellate and trial courts, state appellate and trial courts, and various administrative law courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
