James C. Mehigan has joined Gordon & Rees as a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Mehigan comes to the firm from Wilson Elser.

“Jim has a track record of developing and implementing creative and cost-effective strategies to achieve resolution for his clients,” said O’Kelly McWilliams III, office managing partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. “He has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution and is tenacious at solving legal disputes for his clients at an early stage. We look forward to having Jim join Gordon & Rees in serving our clients.”

Mehigan practices in state and federal courts on matters of product liability, medical malpractice, professional malpractice, general liability and toxic tort litigation. In addition, he has extensive experience representing clients in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.

In his Commercial Litigation practice, Mehigan represents businesses in matters ranging from product liability to premises liability. He has successfully defended businesses in the entertainment industry in claims involving intentional torts and the provision of security.

Mehigan also handles medical malpractice cases and represents medical professionals in malpractice claims. His clients have included doctors, nurses and health care facilities.

He also defends insurance bad faith cases and has managed them effectively to avoid excessive costs to his clients. As a driven advocate for his clients, Mehigan has been able to mitigate bad faith lawsuits that could potentially result in exceptionally high punitive damages awards and take years to resolve.

Mehigan is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia; Maryland; U.S. District Court, District of Columbia; U.S. District Court, District of Maryland; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; and U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
