Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani was the sole platinum sponsor of the Inaugural Gala of the South Asian Bar Association of Colorado (SABA-CO) on November 9, 2017. Denver Gordon & Rees attorney and SABA-CO President, Surbhi Garg, welcomed the sold-out room of guests and highlighted many of SABA-CO's accomplishments during her two-year tenure as President. Gordon & Rees Denver attorneys Laurie Rust and Maral Shoaei along with five of the firm's client representatives joined Garg in support of SABA-CO at the Gordon & Rees table.
Garg also introduced the keynote speaker, Arjun Sethi, a prominent South Asian attorney and activist. Sethi is a writer, an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and Vanderbilt University Law School, and is currently the Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s National Committee on Homeland Security, Counter-terrorism & Treatment of Enemy Combatants. Sethi addressed the effect national policies can have on hate within and against South Asian communities and steps we can all take to combat that hate.
Guest enjoyed tantalizing traditional South Asian cuisine and an energetic performance by Mudra Dance Studios that even lured a few guests to participate. The evening closed with President-Elect, Yamini Piplani, sharing her vision for SABA-CO in 2018.
