Gordon & Rees Welcomes Seventeen New Attorneys in May 2019

In May, Gordon & Rees welcomed seventeen new attorneys to our Chicago, Denver, Hartford, Honolulu, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Westchester offices. They join us as members of the Commercial Litigation, Employment Law, Environmental/Toxic Tort, Insurance, Intellectual Property, and Product & General Liability Practice Groups.

Eve Bacanskas, Associate
Denver, Insurance

Eve joins the Denver office as a member of the Insurance practice group. She has a diverse litigation background and focuses her practice on insurance defense, catastrophic injury, products liability, and complex torts litigation. She has been involved in contract review matters, premises liability, personal injury, products liability, and construction defect cases in over a dozen of different states. Eve earned her J.D. from the University of Denver and her B.S. from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.


Maureen Carr , Associate
Philadelphia, Insurance

Maureen joins the Philadelphia office as a member of the Insurance practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Maureen advised corporations on federal and state laws relating to all types of employment-related matters, in particular with respect to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and federal and state anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws. Maureen earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Kenyon College.


Harris Davidson, Associate
New York, Commercial Litigation

Harris joins the New York office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. His practice focuses on litigating complex commercial actions in federal and state courts throughout the U.S. Following law school, Harris served as an Assistant State Attorney at the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office, in the felony trial division. As a prosecutor, he tried twenty-one jury trials, twenty-three bench trials, and drafted three appellate briefs. Harris earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. from The George Washington University.


Joseph Govea, Associate
Los Angeles, Employment Law

Joseph joins the Los Angeles office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. He represents a variety of clients in high stakes litigation, including medical groups, hospitals, health care systems, and businesses ranging from mid-sized companies to large international corporations. Joseph earned his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of Law and his B.S. from Loyola Marymount University.


Graham Helm, Associate
San Francisco, Employment Law

Graham joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. His practice focuses on management-side representation in single-plaintiff and collective and class action litigation, including at trial and through appeal. Graham has substantial experience defending clients in alleged wage and hour violations, misclassification of workers, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful termination, and other related labor code violations. In addition, he counsels employers in a broad range of employment matters. Graham earned his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law and his B.S. from Arizona State University.


J.J. Hutson , Senior Counsel
Seattle, Product & General Liability

J.J. joins the Seattle office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, J.J. was a senior trial attorney for several insurance companies providing legal defense for insureds in variety of claims in all courts in Washington State, specializing in high risk and complex claims. J.J. earned his J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School and his B.A. from Duke University.


Preetha Jayakumar, Associate
Chicago, Insurance

Preetha joins the Chicago office as a member of the Insurance practice group. She has experience handling cases representing Fortune 500 companies, large municipal clients and small businesses in state and federal court. Preetha assists businesses in a diverse array of industries on statutory and regulatory compliance matters including HIPAA and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Preetha earned her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School and her B.A. from New York University.


Sara Kohgadai, Associate
San Francisco, Product & General Liability

Sara joins the San Francisco office as a member of the Product & General Liability practice group. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, Sara worked in a small law firm in Silicon Valley. Her experience includes working on an array of legal and procedural issues in the areas of personal injury, landlord-tenant disputes, federal aviation, and insurance “bad faith” claims. Sara earned her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and her B.A. from the University of California, Davis.


Kevin Lucas, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Kevin joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Kevin earned his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and his B.B.A. from Western Michigan University.


Meredith Montrose, Associate
San Diego, Employment Law

Meredith joins the San Diego office as a member of the Employment Law practice group. Her practice generally involves defending claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation and wage and hour disputes, as well as other labor and employment litigation issues. She also handles a variety of premises liability and professional liability matters. Prior to her work at Gordon & Rees she worked for a well-known San Diego law firm practicing Medical Malpractice Defense. Meredith earned her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School and her B.B.A. from Baylor University.


Tyler Moss, Associate
Salt Lake City, Commercial Litigation

Tyler joins the Salt Lake City office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He has significant experience in general and complex civil litigation, including franchise litigation, business tort litigation, real estate and construction disputes, breaches of contract, trademark (Lanham Act) violations, corporate and partner disputes, professional negligence, personal injuries, and employment matters. Tyler represents clients in state, federal, and appellate courts as well as before alternative dispute resolution (ADR) settings such as mediation and arbitration. Tyler earned his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Utah.

Erich joins the Chicago office as a member of the Environmental/Toxic Tort practice group. Erich earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and his B.A. from the The University of Kansas.


Mia Obciana, Of Counsel
Honolulu, Commercial Litigation / Insurance / Employment Law / Appellate / Business Transactions / Government Regulatory & Administrative Law / Trials

Mia joins the Honolulu office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She has experience in insurance defense, E&O defense, personal injury plaintiff and defense cases, property damage plaintiff and defense, complex business litigation, business transactions, employment matters, trust and probate litigation, administrative law, criminal prosecution and appellate work. Throughout her career, Mia has participated in numerous trials, mediation, and arbitration in state and federal courts. Mia earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.


Tony Shapiro, Of Counsel
Kansas City, Commercial Litigation

Tony joins the Kansas City office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Tony has experience handling matters in a vast array of different industries and litigation topics. He has argued in the federal and state appellate courts of Kansas and Missouri. Additionally, he has argued jury and bench trials in the federal and state courts of Kansas and Missouri. Tony earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri and his B.A. from Tufts University.

Michael joins the Hartford office as a member of the Insurance practice group. He has decades of experience in litigating insurance disputes and providing practical advice on a range of complex commercial matters both domestic and international. Michael has successfully represented insurers and reinsurers in numerous defense, coverage, and regulatory matters issues across all business lines. He also has a broad commercial litigation background, particularly in the areas of international contract disputes, commercial fraud, products liability, and asbestos. Michael earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and his A.B. from Dartmouth College.


Patrick Welch, Associate
Westchester, Commercial Litigation

Patrick joins the Westchester office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He defends clients in New York State Court litigation, arbitration, and mediation. He provides counsel to his clients with regard to litigation claims, including liability analysis, damages analysis, litigation strategy, and settlement strategy. Patrick earned his J.D. from Pace University School of Law and his B.A. from Iona College.


Jing Zhao, Associate
Las Vegas, Commercial Litigation / Intellectual Property

Jing joins the Las Vegas office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. She has experience in both state and federal court, at both trial and appellate levels. She has successfully represented clients in jury trials, bench trials, mediation and arbitration. Jing has successfully represented a wide variety of clientele, including casinos, technology companies, construction companies, home owners’ associations, property development and management companies, insurance companies, medical clinics, as well as individuals. Jing earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and her B.A. from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
