Partner Jay Gregory Authors Article on Use of Surveillance Systems in Connection with Sale of Residential Property

Boston partner Jay Gregory, a member of Gordon & Rees's Construction, Commercial Litigation and Professional Liability Defense Practice Groups, offers key legal considerations for real estate brokers when selling a home equipped with functional surveillance systems in his recently published article "The Benefits and Risks of Home Video Surveillance When Selling a Property," in CRES Insurance Services online resource center. Gregory specializes in construction and real estate disputes and has defended professional malpractice actions brought against real estate brokers for more than 30 years.

In his article, Gregory presents the advantages of a surveillance system to deter theft and capture potential negotiating advantages from comments by would-be buyers but warns agents of the dangers of not disclosing use of videotaping during an open house showing. He outlines key benefit and claim prevention tips as well as points out vital legal issues to be considered including privacy and variation of jurisdictional laws on videotaping third persons without advance notice.

Gregory's insight on the legal issues associated with using video surveillance in home sales offers brokers helpful advice before showing their next home. To read the article in full, please click here.
