George Mason University Plans 5th Annual Workplace Diversity Practice and Research Conference

The George Mason 5th Annual University Workplace Diversity Practice and Research Conference will take place on June 22 – 23 at the Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel in Fairfax, Virginia. Gordon & Rees's involvement is led by Senior Counsel Edmund Cooke, Jr. of the firm's Washington, D.C. office who serves on the conference's planning committee.

The theme for the 2012 conference is Diversity Culture & Climate. The sessions will address antecedents (how to create a positive diversity climate), measurement issues (how to assess diversity climate), and consequences (how diversity climate affects effects individuals, groups, and organizations).

The conference will provide best practice guidance to advance diversity management programs and research for all diversity professionals and will feature cutting edge presentations led by a group of distinguished session leaders and academic researchers.  Keynote speakers will include Effenus Henderson (Chief Diversity Officer at Weyerhaeuser) and Martin Davidson (Associate Professor of Leadership at the Darden Graduate School of Business). The conference will address topics including:

  • Identifying diversity management best practices.
  • Helping executives, managers, and practitioners identify ways to optimize the effects of workplace diversity programs.
  • Assisting researchers in their quest to identify diversity questions that merit research.
  • Promoting dialogue among diversity professionals.
