Biography

Leigh Woodruff has more than two decades of experience litigating commercial disputes in state and federal courts nationwide. Leigh represents clients in intellectual property, antitrust, construction, professional liability and other areas.

Leigh has obtained numerous dismissals and jury verdicts for her clients. For example, after an Alaskan aviation accident, Leigh defended the aircraft engine manufacturer in a three-month trial resulting in a complete defense verdict. In another trial, Leigh persuaded a federal jury to award zero non-economic damages by incisive cross-examination of plaintiffs’ expert witness, the pathologist known for identifying CTE in NFL players and whom actor Will Smith portrayed in the move “Concussion.” In the professional liability area, Leigh’s experience includes defending engineers named in actions filed after the Philadelphia Pier 34 collapse, and lawyers facing legal malpractice suits, e.g., obtaining a defense verdict for an ALM100 firm against a $20M malpractice claim.

Leigh has briefed and argued appeals before numerous state and federal panels. Frequently, Leigh consults with other lawyers to provide coaching on persuasive brief writing for appeals, as well as complex motions. On topics related to persuasive advocacy, Leigh provides seminars for state and county bar association groups and consults pro bono with civil legal aid organizations about civil rights cases. Leigh also teaches at annual NITA trial practice trainings and teaches law school courses on Trial Advocacy and Appellate Advocacy.
