1/30/2014

On Feb. 19, the Philadelphia Business Journal will honor Gordon & Rees partner Ann Thornton Field as one of its 2014 Outstanding Board Directors. Field will be recognized for her exceptional service as an outside director for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, where she chairs the board of directors.

The Outstanding Directors Awards are presented to high-performing directors making a difference in a competitive environment. Field and the nine other board directors being honored demonstrated the vital leadership and business savvy necessary to help guide their businesses' success.

The Philadelphia Business Journal wrote in a Jan. 16 article that Field led the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania through a merger of three separate and smaller councils to help the organization become what it is today. Field also was “instrumental in conception and organization of the first ever Girl Expo, which hosted more than 3,000 girls and Girl Scouts.” According to its website, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania is the “largest girl-serving organization in Pennsylvania,” serving 41,000 girls in partnership with 15,000 volunteers.

Field is a member of Gordon & Rees’s Aviation, Commercial Litigation, and Insurance Groups. Her practice focuses on general litigation, aviation, and products liability matters and she has been lead counsel for numerous matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States. She was involved with the defense of death claims arising from the bombing and crash of Pan Am Flight 103 in Lockerbie, Scotland; the defense of claims arising from the U.S. Navy experimental V-22 Osprey Tilt Rotor Aircraft; the 1996 ValuJet accident; the 1996 TWA 800 accident; and the 2006 Brazilian Midair Collision.

Among her many honors, Field was named a Woman of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal and the National Association of Women Business Owners, and she received the Lynette Norton Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession. She also has a Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating of AV Preeminent (5.0 out of 5.0).

The Philadelphia Business Journal’s Outstanding Directors Awards 2014 black-tie gala will be held from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Union League in Philadelphia. To register or for more information, click here.
