Partners Sandy Kaplan and Lisa Cappelluti to Present at 2021 CLM Construction Conference

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani San Francisco senior construction partner, Sandy Kaplan, and partner Lisa Cappelluti, have been selected to present at the CLM Construction Conference September 22–24 in San Diego, California.

Kaplan will present “Effective Strategies for Resolving Catastrophic Construction Site Injury Claims,” on Thursday, September 23 at 2:30 p.m. Pacific.

Catastrophic injuries on construction sites raise the same insurance and indemnity issues as typical construction defect disputes with the addition of priority of coverage issues. This session will help attendees to understand the overlap and assist claims professionals and defense counsel in efficiently resolving these claims.

Cappelluti will present “Is It Safe to Get Back in the Water: COVID-19 Compliance and Claims for General Contractors in California and National Residential/Commercial Construction Projects,” on Thursday, September 23 at 4 p.m. Pacific.

This discussion will focus on issues facing general contractors in the COVID-world including construction disputes, safety issues including owner issues, subcontractor issues, safety monitoring, and application of the newest safety regulations affecting projects in California and across the country with the changing safety orders and tier compliance throughout the pandemic. Additionally, insight from counsel on the contract provisions applicable to the disputes and potential coverage considerations for the carriers on these post-pandemic claims will be provided.

Kaplan is a senior partner in the Construction practice group. His practice focuses on defect, delay, cost overrun and product liability cases as well as contract review and preparation. He represents developers, owners, general contractors and building product manufacturers in multi-party litigation as well as non-litigation business and insurance coverage matters. He has extensive trial experience in subsidence, construction defect, mold, delay and cost over cases and has tried numerous cases to verdict.

Cappelluti is a partner in the San Francisco office and is a member of the Construction practice group. Her practice emphasizes the representation of developers and general contractors in construction disputes and contract consultations. She has represented clients in a wide variety of cases, for both residential and commercial construction projects.
